A Markdown cheat sheet for blog posts
Markdown covers nearly everything a blog post needs. This is the part I actually use.
Text
Use *one asterisk* for emphasis and **two** for strong emphasis. Put code in backticks, like hugo --panicOnWarning.
Headings and lists
Start a line with ## for a section heading. Lists are just lines with a dash or a number:
- First point
- Second point
- A nested point
- Do this
- Then that
Links and images
A link is [text](address). An image is the same with an exclamation mark in front: . Always write the description; it is what screen readers read out.
Quotes
A quote starts with a greater-than sign.
Code blocks
Wrap code in three backticks on their own lines:
echo "hello"
Tables
| Syntax | Result |
|---|---|
*text* | emphasis |
**text** | strong emphasis |
One habit
Write the first paragraph so it works as a summary. On this blog the home page shows the start of each post, so that paragraph is the advert for the rest.
