My Blog

What to write about when you think you have nothing

Almost everyone who starts a blog stalls on the same question: what is there to say? The answer is usually closer than it looks.

Write down what you just solved

The error that cost you an afternoon will cost someone else an afternoon too. A short post with the symptom, the cause and the fix is genuinely useful, and search engines are good at delivering it to the right person.

Explain something you recently learned

You understand a new subject best right after you learned it, because you remember what was confusing. Experts forget that. You are in a good position to write the clear version.

Describe your setup

How you organise notes, build a project or deploy a site is interesting to people who do something similar. It does not have to be the best way, only an honest one.

Share a decision

“I chose X over Y, and here is why” is a format that always works. Include what you gave up.

Lower the bar

You do not need an angle. A post that starts “Today I learned” and ends after ten lines is enough. Do that a few dozen times and you have a blog.
